Houthis attack Yemeni government forces, killing at least 30 soldiers

ADEN, Yemen — Houthi forces launched attacks on multiple military camps in Ma'rib and Hadramawt, killing at least 30 soldiers of Yemen's internationally recognized government, according to Reuters. Yemeni government sources said the strikes targeted military positions linked to government forces, with an initial death toll of at least 30. Government sources warned the casualty count could rise as the assessment of losses and conditions in the targeted areas continues. The violence follows a week of escalating regional tensions after the Houthis announced a maritime navigation ban against Saudi Arabia and threatened to target Saudi vessels. The Saudi-led coalition responded with airstrikes on Saturday on what it said were Houthi military positions in Hodeidah. Separately, the German news agency dpa reported that five Houthi fighters were killed on Sunday after clashes with government forces in the southwestern city of Taiz, following an attempted infiltration of army positions.
