ANBAR, Iraq โ€” Research presented at the ENDO 2026 conference found that daytime naps longer than 30 minutes substantially raise the risk of fatty liver disease in adults with type 2 diabetes. The study analyzed data from roughly 1,900 type 2 diabetes patients whose sleep patterns were tracked between 2017 and 2024. Over more than three years of follow-up, 379 participants were diagnosed with fatty liver disease. The increased risk appeared even among patients who got adequate sleep at night, according to the researchers. The team reported that individuals with poor nighttime sleep who also took long daytime naps faced more than three times the risk compared with others in the study. Researchers described sleep patterns as a modifiable lifestyle factor and advised type 2 diabetes patients to avoid prolonged daytime napping. The study also noted that recurring daytime sleepiness may be associated with cardiovascular disease, sleep disorders and neurological problems. Further details on the research were not immediately available.
