Body of foreign national recovered from river in Duhok's Zakho district

DUHOK, Iraq — The body of a foreign national was found on the banks of the Khabur River in the Zakho district of Duhok province, a local government source said. The body was discovered in the village of Tisana, part of the Patil subdistrict in Zakho, according to the source. Initial examination indicated the deceased was a man estimated to be between 25 and 35 years old. The source said the body was carried downstream by the river current before being found in the village, and that early indications suggest he was a foreign worker employed in the Duhok or Zakho area. The man is believed to have been a Bangladeshi national. Authorities said the individual may have fallen into the river and drowned while attempting to cross the border illegally, a pattern seen in similar cases in the region. Civil defense teams, divers and police were dispatched to the scene, and the body was transferred to a forensic institution to begin legal procedures.
