ERBIL, Iraq โ The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and Iranian opposition groups based in the region have denied any military activity directed at Iranian territory from Iraqi soil. The regional administration reiterated its position that its territory will not be used to launch attacks against neighboring countries.
In a statement, the KRG also placed responsibility on Baghdad for halting attacks targeting Kurdistan, whether originating from Iraqi territory or from Iran. Iranian opposition groups in the region similarly rejected claims of military movements, denying any operations launched from bases inside Kurdistan.
Previous strikes have hit Iranian opposition camps and critical oil facilities in the region, according to earlier reports. A recent attack on the office of the Kurdistan Region's prime minister and the residence of the head of its security agency has raised concerns about the region's ability to protect sensitive sites.
The developments have renewed calls for stronger military coordination between Baghdad and Erbil and for the provision of air defense systems to the region, the statement added. No further details were immediately available on specific measures under discussion.
