Kurdish folk music group opens first concert in Sulaymaniyah

SULAYMANIYAH, Iraq — The Kurdish folk music ensemble "Kêjany Kurdistan" held its inaugural concert in Sulaymaniyah on Saturday evening, marking the group's first artistic performance in the Kurdistan Region. Group director Hoger Mohammed said more than 70 singers, performing artists, musicians and choir members from cities across the Kurdistan Region took part in the event, alongside four artists from outside the region. The concert drew a large audience and featured traditional Kurdish folk songs specific to the region. Mohammed said the program includes a series of concerts inside and outside the Kurdistan Region. The next stop will be Halabja on Saturday, August 8, with additional performances planned in other cities. The group's stated aim is to preserve the authenticity of Kurdish music and provide a stage for young talent.
