AMMAN, Jordan โ€” Jordan's army said its air defenses intercepted 20 missiles fired from Iran toward the Azraq region in the country's east on Thursday morning. The military said the missiles were brought down early in the attack and caused no casualties or material damage. In a statement, the army said falling debris and shrapnel from the interception did not injure anyone or cause property damage. It added that Jordan's air force and air defenses responded immediately after the missiles were detected. The army said it would not allow any party to violate Jordanian airspace and reiterated its commitment to defending the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity. It did not name the Iranian faction responsible for the launches. Azraq sits in eastern Jordan near the border with Saudi Arabia and is a known military and strategic area. The incident follows a sharp escalation between Iran and Israel and heightened regional tensions over Iran's nuclear program and the war in Gaza.
