Jordan says air defenses intercepted five missiles from Iran

AMMAN, Jordan — Jordan's military said its air defenses intercepted five missiles fired from Iran early Wednesday, according to a statement from the army spokesperson. The spokesperson said the missiles, detected by monitoring and tracking systems, entered Jordanian airspace and were downed in line with established engagement rules. The army said it remains committed to defending the country's airspace and safeguarding its security and sovereignty against any threat. Separately earlier the same day, a U.S. official told media outlets that Iran had launched several ballistic missiles toward a U.S. military base in Jordan early in the morning. The official described it as the first such attack since U.S. President Donald Trump paused strikes against Iran to allow room for diplomacy. Jordanian authorities confirmed that the missiles targeted its territory. They did not attribute the strikes to a specific origin point or corroborate the U.S. official's account that a U.S. base was the target.
