Israel says Hamas commander killed in Gaza airstrike

GAZA STRIP — The Israeli army said Jamal Abu Aun, who served in Hamas’s armed wing, was killed in an airstrike in the central Gaza Strip on Saturday. The army said Abu Aun also worked as a doctor at Yafa Hospital in Deir al-Balah. In its statement, the army said the strike was aimed directly at Abu Aun. It did not provide further details on the operation. The army also said forces in its southern command remained deployed in the field under the agreement and would continue operations to remove an immediate threat.
