Military Raid in Mahmoudiyah Leads to Arrests and Allegations of Assault

BAGHDAD, Iraq — A family in the Murtaza neighborhood of Mahmoudiyah, Baghdad, reported that military forces raided their home and detained several family members following a late-night confrontation. The incident reportedly began at 11:00 p.m. after a vehicle turned near two military trucks. Family members alleged that soldiers assaulted them with batons and tasers, causing some individuals to lose consciousness and requiring one person, identified as Marwan, to be hospitalized. A neighbor who witnessed the event stated that the military vehicles were positioned at a distance from the turning car, contradicting the military's account. Upon visiting a local police station, the family discovered that the commanding officer had filed charges against them, accusing them of attacking an officer and his soldiers. The case against the three detained family members remains ongoing, and the family has requested an official investigation into the conduct of the military unit.
