BAGHDAD, Iraq — The Ministry of Trade’s Commercial and Financial Oversight Department has launched a series of inspections across Baghdad to investigate rising prices for eggs and other food products. The operation, conducted in coordination with security forces, targeted major food markets and retail outlets in both the Karkh and Resafa districts. Riyad Mahdi al-Musawi, director general of the department, stated that the campaign aims to ensure merchant compliance with regulations and prevent the exploitation of consumers. He added that these inspections are ongoing on a daily basis across Baghdad and other provinces to monitor the flow of food supplies. On May 10, the Ministry of Trade set the retail price for a crate of eggs at 6,000 dinars. The ministry also implemented a 20 percent customs tariff on egg imports as part of its market regulation measures.
