BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq’s Sunni Endowments Diwan announced a criminal complaint on Wednesday against cleric Fadik Musawi, accusing him of insulting and slandering the Prophet Muhammad’s companions and wife. It asked Baghdad’s Karkh Third Investigative Court to take legal action.
The complaint, submitted by the Legal Department of the Sunni Endowments Diwan, included a CD containing video recordings allegedly attributed to Musawi. The document alleged that the acts were intended to incite sectarian hatred and sedition among Iraqi children.
Legal Department Director-General Mohammed Suleiman Hammoud said the complaint was filed under Article 111 of Iraq’s amended 1969 Penal Code.
The complaint followed the online recirculation of a video attributed to Musawi under claims that it was new. Some activists said the footage came from an event held on June 15, 2025 and was unrelated to a new incident.
