DOHA, Qatar โ€” Iraqi President Nizar Amidi traveled to Qatar on Monday to offer condolences to Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani over the death of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, according to a statement from the Iraqi presidential press office. Amidi visited the Emiri Diwan to express solidarity with Qatar during the period of mourning. The Iraqi presidency said Amidi's trip was intended to reflect the depth of fraternal relations between Iraq and Qatar and to demonstrate Iraq's support for Doha in its loss. The statement described Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani as the architect of Qatar's modern development, noting that the country's constitution was adopted and the Qatar National Vision 2030 โ€” aimed at building a knowledge-based economy and sustainable development โ€” was prepared during his reign. According to the statement, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani was born in Doha in 1952, completed his primary and secondary education in the city, and graduated from the Sandhurst Military Academy in Britain in 1971 before joining the Qatar Armed Forces. No further details on the visit were immediately available.
