Iraqi police arrest suspect who impersonated prime minister's office officer

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Police in Baghdad's Rusafa district said they have arrested a man who impersonated a captain serving in the prime minister's office to carry out fraud. The Rusafa Police Command said the suspect was detained in a joint operation by the Karada Police Unit, the Karada Anti-Crime Unit and patrols from the Musabbih police station. According to the command, the operation was based on intelligence that the man was present in the area of responsibility. He was apprehended after police set up an ambush, the statement said. The command said the suspect used the false officer identity to defraud citizens. He was identified as a repeat offender and was wanted under a 1983 resolution, Decision No. 160, the statement added. The suspect has been transferred to a detention facility and referred for legal proceedings, according to the police statement.
