Iraqi anti-corruption body detains officials over Maysan hospital renovation probe

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Commission on Integrity said several officials at the Maysan Provincial Health Department have been detained over alleged irregularities in a renovation project at Al-Hussein Teaching Hospital in the city of Samawa. A security source told local media that three to five people linked to the project were taken into custody by Nezaha forces, an investigative body under the commission. The commission said the detentions were part of a corruption and administrative misconduct investigation into the renovation contract. Those arrested will be referred to the competent courts once legal procedures are completed, it added. According to the commission, Nezaha personnel are continuing technical examinations at the site and reviewing project documents, while oversight of the hospital renovation will be tightened. Local sources have reported that financial and administrative violations were identified during the renovation phase, though further details were not immediately available.
