Iraqi anti-corruption body arrests suspect in Maysan impersonating officer to extort bribe

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Federal Commission of Integrity said a man was caught red-handed in Maysan province while collecting a bribe under the false identity of a security officer. According to the commission, a field team from its investigation office tracked and monitored the suspect before arresting him as he posed as an officer assigned to an anti-narcotics unit. The commission said the man threatened a citizen with the appearance of being able to close an investigation file within the unit and demanded a 10 million dinar bribe. During the operation, an amount of cash representing the first installment of the bribe was seized. The case file and the suspect were referred to the competent investigating judge, who ordered his detention in accordance with the relevant provisions of Penal Code Decision No. 160 of 1983, the commission said.
