Iraq releases 519 prisoners in July 2026, justice ministry says

BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's Ministry of Justice said Wednesday that 519 prisoners were released in July 2026 through the work of the country's Directorate of Reform. The ministry said the releases were carried out from prisons in Baghdad and other cities.
According to the ministry, 345 of those freed were released under various court decisions, while the remaining 174 were released under a general amnesty law. Officials said the prisoners were released after completing all legal requirements and that the process was conducted in line with existing legal frameworks.
The ministry said the Directorate of Reform continues to carry out its professional and humanitarian duties with high precision. It added that the monthly reports are intended to provide transparent tracking of release procedures.
