Iraqi anti-corruption body arrests fake police officer in Maysan bribery case

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Federal Integrity Commission announced the arrest of a man in Maysan province who posed as a police officer to extort money from citizens. According to the commission, a field team from the Maysan investigation office tracked and apprehended the suspect after he moved through the province's Anti-Narcotics Directorate while disguised as an officer. The commission said the suspect demanded 10 million dinars in bribes from a citizen in exchange for promising to close a case file at the directorate. During the operation, investigators seized cash from the suspect representing the first installment of the bribe. The field team referred the suspect to the competent investigating judge under a formal legal record. The judge ordered the suspect detained in accordance with the provisions of Decision No. 160 of 1983, as amended.
