BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” Iraq's Federal Commission of Integrity said a deputy police director serving in Nineveh province, which includes Mosul, was arrested on charges of demanding a bribe in exchange for altering a suspect's confession. The commission said the officer requested the change to bring the date of the offense within the scope of a General Amnesty Law, allowing the detainee to be cleared. According to the commission, an intermediary was caught red-handed carrying $15,000 in cash intended for the officer. The money was seized before it could be delivered, the commission added. The arrest was carried out by the commission's Nineveh investigation directorate in coordination with the Nineveh Intelligence and Counter-Terrorism Directorate and the Nineveh Police Command. The intermediary and the deputy police director were brought before the competent investigating judge, who ordered both detained under decision No. 1983/160. No further details were immediately available on the identities of the suspects or the underlying case.
