Liverpool manager Slot rules out Netherlands job at this stage

Arne Slot, the Dutch manager of Premier League club Liverpool, has confirmed he was contacted by the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) about taking charge of the Netherlands national team but said he does not consider this the right time to make the move. Slot, who joined Liverpool in 2024 after leading Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title, said reports in recent weeks about salary terms and contract length did not reflect the substance of the talks because discussions had not reached that stage. Speaking to BBC Sport and quoted by Voetbal International, he said the conversations with the federation had been handled professionally. The 47-year-old said he still sees club management as a better fit for his career and added that leading his country would be an honor, but not now. The KNVB is searching for a successor to Ronald Koeman, who left his position after the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. Former Portugal coach Roberto Martinez has also been mentioned as a candidate for the role. No further details about the KNVB's selection process were immediately available.
