BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's Ministry of Justice announced on August 5, 2026, that 519 detainees were released from correctional facilities under the Reform Department's authority during July 2026. The releases were carried out at facilities in Baghdad, including the Karkh side of the capital, and in other cities, the ministry said.
According to the ministry's statement, 345 of the detainees were released under various judicial rulings, while 174 were freed under a general amnesty law. The breakdown indicates that judicial decisions accounted for the majority of the monthly releases.
The ministry said release procedures would continue within the established framework once all legal conditions are met. It added that the Reform Department continues to apply its release procedures in line with both judicial decisions and the general amnesty law.
No further details on the identities of those released or the specific facilities involved were immediately provided.
