Iraqi and Saudi foreign ministers meet in Amman, discuss upcoming Arab summit

AMMAN, Jordan — Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan in the Jordanian capital on Wednesday to discuss bilateral ties and regional issues, Iraq's foreign ministry said. The talks focused on preparations for an upcoming Arab summit and proposals on its venue in light of regional security developments. The two ministers also addressed a planned visit by an Iraqi security delegation to Saudi Arabia and the exchange of high-level visits between the two countries. Hussein conveyed Iraq's policy of centralizing the use of arms under state authority, according to the ministry statement. Prince Faisal bin Farhan expressed Saudi Arabia's support for Iraq's new government and its efforts to strengthen internal security, the statement added. The two sides further discussed the impact of regional security developments on oil export routes and energy supply security, as well as possible regional understandings aimed at reopening maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
