BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” Four members of Iraq's well-known Beni Amir religious procession were killed and two others injured in a traffic accident early Tuesday on the international highway linking Dhi Qar and Basra, according to local reports. The victims were identified as Zahir al-Amiri, Ahmed Kadim, Ali Razi and Mahmud Abbas. The accident occurred as the group was returning to Basra after taking part in the Erbain commemorations at the Bayn al-Haramayn area between the holy shrines in Karbala. The Beni Amir procession, which departs Basra each year for Karbala, is recognized in Iraq for its organized march and distinctive white attire. The procession is among the country's most established Husayni pilgrim groups, drawing participants who travel on foot to mark the religious observance. No further details on the cause of the crash or the condition of the injured were immediately available.
