Iraq Vows Action If Its Territory Used in Attacks on Gulf States

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaydi said Iraq will not allow individuals or groups that threaten the country’s security or that of other states in the region, as the government weighs further steps to protect stability and sovereignty. The statement came during a meeting of the Iraqi National Security Council. The council ordered security units to raise their readiness and capacity and to strengthen coordination across the system. It said the measures are intended to safeguard Iraq’s stability and sovereignty. The council also said action will be taken against those responsible if evidence shows that Iraqi territory or airspace was used in attacks on Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. That warning directly linked Iraq’s internal security posture to regional tensions. In the same meeting, the council condemned the recent attacks on Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. It also renewed Iraq’s commitment to continue cooperation with neighboring countries on the issue.
