Iraq Temperatures to Reach 43°C This Week

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's General Meteorological Authority forecast Monday that temperatures across the country will climb to 43 degrees Celsius over the coming days. According to the authority's statement, Sulaymaniyah will see 35°C, Duhok 36°C, Erbil 38°C, and Nineveh and Kirkuk 39°C. Kirkuk, Mosul and Anbar are expected to reach 40°C, while Baghdad, Diyala, Babil and Salahuddin will hit 41°C. Najaf, Dhi Qar and Wasit are forecast at 42°C, with Maysan, Dhi Qar, Muthanna and Basra the hottest at 43°C. The statement said skies will remain mostly clear through Wednesday, with temperatures generally rising. On Thursday, temperatures are expected to hold steady in central and southern regions while rising slightly in the north.
