BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” Iraq's Ministry of Education has closed 158 private education institutions operating without official permits in Baghdad and other cities, the ministry said. Surprise inspections were carried out in coordination with the National Security Advisory, targeting tutoring centers and other private education providers. Education Minister Abdul Karim Abtan ordered the inspection campaign against unlicensed institutions, according to the ministry statement. Operators of facilities found in violation were referred for legal action, while ministry teams also reviewed the work of subcommittees attached to the Baghdad directorate and education offices in other cities. The inspections, conducted in May, June and July, led to the closure of the 158 institutions flagged for noncompliance. The ministry said inspections of unlicensed education providers would continue.
