BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's Security Media Cell said airstrikes in the northern Zaghitoun Valley region neutralized a group of militants, according to a statement. The cell said the air-supported operation was planned by security forces and that targets were struck with precision.
Security officials said the operation inflicted heavy losses on the militant network in the area and that tracking of remaining cells is continuing. A detailed search and sweep of the region was launched following the airstrikes, according to security sources.
Officials emphasized that no civilian casualties occurred in the operation, which they said was carried out based on intelligence reports. The Security Media Cell said the airstrike was conducted through joint intelligence sharing between the Iraqi army and coalition forces, and that similar counterterrorism operations will continue.
