Iraq says over 1.5 million visitors have entered for Karbala pilgrimage

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Security Media Cell said the number of visitors who have entered the country since the 1st of Muharram has reached 1,500,977, as arrivals continue from various countries. Cell chief Lieutenant General Saad Maan reported that the figure, recorded as of Monday night, surpassed the previous day's count of 1,273,758. The Security Media Cell said border crossings have been proceeding smoothly under approved security and service plans. Authorities have rolled out wide-ranging security and logistical measures in Karbala to manage the surge in visitors. The annual influx is tied to the Arbaeen pilgrimage, which marks the 40th day of mourning for Imam Hussein, drawing millions of worshippers to the holy city each year. Officials have urged continued coordination through approved entry channels to keep the flow steady.
