BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's Supreme Judicial Council said in a written statement on Saturday that the prosecution of those responsible for the Camp Speicher massacre would continue, on the 12th anniversary of the attack. The council described the killings as "one of the most horrific crimes committed by the ISIS terrorist organization against the Iraqi people" and said the case would be treated as an ongoing file of justice rather than a one-time commemoration.
The council pledged that authorities would not abandon the pursuit of those responsible and would not allow them to escape accountability. It said competent courts have issued judicial decisions against defendants implicated in the crime.
The statement added that Iraq's National Center for International Judicial Cooperation will work to preserve national memory, continue documentation efforts and establish the facts of the case. The council said justice would be pursued until all those responsible receive the punishment they deserve, in what it described as fulfillment of the blood of the martyrs and the patience of the victims' families.
