Iraq's Oil Ministry allocates over 400 million liters of gas oil to private generators in September

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Oil Ministry allocated more than 400 million liters of gas oil to private generators in September, averaging roughly 14 million liters per day, ministry spokesman Salim al-Rikabi told the official gazette. Al-Rikabi said the allocation for private generators was set at 40 liters per kilovolt, with the monthly total exceeding 400 million liters. He added that demand is being met through domestic production, with imports continuing when necessary. Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zayni had previously directed that private generators receive 40 liters of fuel per kilowatt-hour at a subsidized price of 400 dinars per liter. The decision requires generators to operate at least 20 hours per day in coordination with the national grid, according to the ministry statement. Baghdad Provincial Council instructed administrative units and district offices to step up oversight of generator operators to ensure compliance. Council member Ali Tamer said operators who fail to comply or deliberately shut down their generators face fines exceeding one million dinars under inspections launched late Tuesday. Operators excluded from the fuel quota will still be able to obtain fuel through state distribution points or commercial sales. Hani al-Rubai, technical head of the Baghdad Provincial Council's Generators Committee, said a wide inspection campaign conducted jointly with the capital's security forces has led to numerous generators being restarted.
