ERBIL, Iraq โ The Kurdistan Region's Counter-Terrorism Service said on Wednesday that the international coalition downed 10 drones over Erbil earlier in the day. The service said the incident occurred in the early morning hours and that the aircraft were intercepted in the city's airspace. No country or group has been publicly identified as the source of the drones, according to the statement.
The Counter-Terrorism Service said an investigation into the downed aircraft is underway. It added that coordination on airspace security between coalition forces and Kurdish authorities is continuing, and that officials are closely monitoring the security situation in the area.
Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, has been the site of repeated drone incidents in recent months, several of which have been attributed to Iran-backed militias. No further details on the latest interception were immediately available.
