Iraq's crime rate falls to lowest level in years, Interior Ministry says

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq’s crime rate has fallen to its lowest level in years, the Interior Ministry said. Maj. Gen. Mikdad Miri, head of the ministry’s Media Relations Department, said crime indicators declined substantially during the government’s first 100 days. Miri attributed the decrease to operations conducted by security forces in coordination with various units. The ministry said intensified intelligence and security work, stronger regional security and improved rapid-response mechanisms also contributed to the decline. The ministry said tracking wanted individuals, dismantling criminal networks and taking proactive measures to prevent crime helped produce the results. It added that security forces would continue developing their plans and increasing their presence in the field. Miri said the objective was to create a more stable security environment in all cities, protecting the lives and property of citizens.
