Iraq central bank meets licensed e-payment firms on digital upgrade

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) Governor Nizar Hussein met with representatives of licensed electronic payment companies in Baghdad to discuss the sector's role in expanding the country's digital payment infrastructure. The talks focused on integrating electronic payment services more effectively with the banking system and increasing non-cash transaction volumes. According to a CBI statement, bank officials reviewed information from company representatives on operational capacity, technical infrastructure and regulatory compliance. Participants also discussed upgrading standards for digital wallets, card-based payments and instant payment systems. The central bank said it would closely monitor compliance, reporting and supervision requirements for licensed electronic payment institutions.
