Iraq Records 18,351 Marriages in July, Court Data Shows

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Federal courts across 15 Iraqi cities recorded 18,351 marriage contracts in July, excluding the Kurdistan Region, according to data released Tuesday by the Supreme Judicial Council. Courts also registered 6,352 divorces, bringing the total number of marriage and divorce proceedings to 24,703. Mosul recorded the highest number of marriages, with 3,412 contracts. Baghdad followed with 4,058, including the Karkh and Rusafa districts, which cover opposite sides of the capital. Baghdad also recorded the most divorces, with 2,620 cases, followed by Basra with 620. The data show that most of the proceedings recorded by the courts were concentrated in cities with high population densities.
