KUWAIT CITY, Kuwait โ€” Iraq ranked 140th in the 2026 Global Peace Index, placing it at the bottom of the Arab countries surveyed. The index, produced by the Institute for Economics and Peace, assessed 163 countries and territories. Among Arab states, Qatar led at 31st, followed by Kuwait (49th), Oman (60th), Morocco (65th), Jordan (68th) and the United Arab Emirates (73rd). Tunisia placed 77th, Algeria 91st, Saudi Arabia 95th, Djibouti 105th, Bahrain 108th, Mauritania 112th and Egypt 113th. Libya ranked 125th and Lebanon 131st, leaving Iraq as the lowest-ranked Arab country. At the bottom of the global ranking, Somalia placed 153rd, Syria 155th, Yemen 156th and Sudan 162nd. The index evaluates countries across indicators linked to ongoing conflict, societal safety and militarization.
