Iraq PM appoints Nasir Aziz Cabbar as deputy director general for extraction at Oil Ministry

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani has appointed oil specialist Nasir Aziz Cabbar as deputy director general for extraction affairs at the Oil Ministry. According to documents from the Prime Minister's General Secretariat, the appointment was formalized on June 16, 2026, at the prime minister's direction. Cabbar previously held consulting and technical positions in the sector and will be responsible for extraction operations within the ministry. The appointment letter stated the decision was made under the prime minister's direct instruction and that the new distribution of duties had taken effect. The Oil Ministry said the change is intended to open a new phase in the management of the units handling the country's production and exploration activities. No official date was given for when Cabbar will assume his new role.
