Iraq opens applications for 200-square-meter residential plots in Baghdad, other cities

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Ministry of Construction, Housing and Municipalities has begun accepting applications from citizens for 200-square-meter residential plots in Baghdad and other cities. The ministry announced the program on Sunday and set out the eligibility requirements. Applicants must be Iraqi citizens with at least one Iraqi parent, be over the legal age of 18, and not receive a regular salary from a government institution. The city where the application is filed must match the applicant's place of birth on their residency card. Winners selected through a lottery and allocation process will be required to submit specific documents. Widowed and divorced applicants, except unmarried women over 35, must provide a "maintenance document," and applicants must not have previously received a plot or housing from the state on behalf of a spouse or dependent children under Decree 1982/120. The ministry also said applicants must not fall under agricultural savings Decision 2022/320 or housing savings Decision 2025/20. The total cost of each plot, including infrastructure services, is set at 11 million Iraqi dinars. Payment must be completed within six months of the allocation date, or the application will be voided. Applications in Baghdad will be accepted for five days, while other cities will follow approved schedules.
