BAGHDAD, Iraq โ The Iraqi Interior Ministry announced on Monday that a federal police officer has been detained following an assault on a disabled citizen in the Kadhimiya district. Senior Deputy Interior Minister Hussein al-Awadi ordered the arrest after video footage of the incident circulated publicly.
An emergency investigative committee has been established to determine the circumstances surrounding the assault. The ministry stated that legal and administrative proceedings will be initiated against any personnel found to have been negligent.
In its statement, the ministry emphasized that it maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding the mistreatment of citizens. Officials added that any behavior contradicting the institution's professional and humanitarian standards will be addressed.
