BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” Iraq's Border Ports Authority said 12 refrigerated trucks carrying imported red meat were stopped at Umm Qasr North Port after a weight discrepancy was detected between delivery orders and customs documents. The authority said in a written statement that the vehicles were inspected at a control point outside the customs zone, where the recorded weights of the meat shipments did not match those declared in customs paperwork. The authority said the discrepancies meant the shipment did not meet import conditions and caused public financial harm. The trucks were seized and the resulting records were referred to the Umm Qasr Customs Police Center for further action. The case was sent to the Umm Qasr Investigation Court under a judicial order, with the authority saying responsible parties would be held to account. No further details on the quantity of meat involved, its country of origin, or the value of the alleged loss were immediately available.
