BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's Border Crossings Authority said customs officers at Umm Qasr North Port intercepted a 40-foot container carrying new motorcycle spare parts whose import is prohibited and which had not been declared in customs filings.
According to the authority, personnel from the Umm Qasr North Gate Directorate stopped the container at an inspection point outside the customs zone. The search uncovered new motorcycle spare parts inside, prompting officials to record the case in line with legal procedures.
The container was referred to the Umm Qasr North Customs Police Center to initiate the required legal action. The authority did not immediately identify the owner of the shipment or specify the country of origin.
The seizure comes as Iraqi customs authorities continue to tighten controls at southern ports, where smuggling cases involving restricted goods have been reported in recent months.
