Iraq’s national team has intensified tactical training at its camp in Girona, Spain, as it steps up preparations for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The training camp is being run under Australian head coach Graham Arnold, who has increased the workload to raise the squad’s physical and technical levels.
The technical staff has decided to hold morning sessions behind closed doors to protect tactical secrecy, while evening training remains open to the media. Professional players Kevin Yakub, Kamil Saadi and Yusuf Al-Amin have already joined the camp.
Ahmed Qasim, who plays for Nashville in the United States, is expected to arrive in the coming days, while the rest of the squad is set to join gradually to complete the roster. The team is also waiting on the condition of Karrar Nabil, who recently fell ill.
No official statement has yet been made by the administrative or technical staff on whether Nabil will remain with the camp or be sent to rest. Iraq will face Andorra on 29 May at Girona Stadium in a friendly that Arnold will use to assess player form and test his tactical plans.
