BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraqi Justice Minister Khalid Shwani met with Britain’s ambassador to Baghdad, Ifran Siddiq, to discuss the status of British ISIS members held in Iraqi prisons. The talks also covered ways to strengthen judicial and legal ties between the two countries and expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The two sides reviewed the situation of British prisoners held in Iraq’s correctional institutions and the transfer mechanisms under Iraq-Britain prisoner exchange memorandums. They also discussed the file of prisoners transferred from Syria to Iraq.
Shwani stressed the need to strengthen international cooperation so relevant countries can receive their nationals held in Iraq’s correctional institutions in line with the legal framework and bilateral agreements.
The British ambassador said his country remains committed to continuing cooperation with the Iraqi Justice Ministry and offering support in various shared areas.
