NINOVA, Iraq — A source in Nineveh said new power lines have been brought into service on Iraq’s electricity grid through Turkey and the Kurdistan Region, adding about 1,200 megawatts in total. The source said roughly 600 megawatts came through the Turkish line in recent days, while a similar amount was supplied from the Kurdistan Region through the Kar company.
The source said Nineveh received about 8.5% of that electricity, with the rest distributed to other Iraqi cities. It added that the lines are contributing not only to Nineveh’s supply but also to the stability of the national electricity system.
In Mosul, daily electricity availability is currently between 14 and 16 hours, the source said. It added that summer heat and rising demand could affect that level.
The source also said Electricity Minister Ali Saadi Wahib has called for a central emergency room to be set up to deal with the difficulties expected in the summer of 2026.
