BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” Iran's national football team left a handwritten message in the dressing room at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles after drawing 0-0 with Belgium in their second Group G match of the 2026 World Cup. The note, published by the Iranian Football Federation, said the team had come to Los Angeles with pride, competed with honor and was leaving with dignity. The message also referred to "the spirit of Iran standing tall from the ancient land of Persia to today's civilized Iran," and thanked all Iranians who gave their hearts, voices and spirits during the 180 minutes played so far. The federation's statement concluded with a wish for peace, respect and friendship among all nations. Iran is based in Tijuana, Mexico, for the tournament because of political disputes, and travels to the United States only for matches. The team opened its campaign with a 2-2 draw against New Zealand before holding Belgium, taking its tally to two points. Iran will face Egypt in its final group game on Saturday at 4 p.m. local time in Seattle.
