Iran, Iraq agree to cooperate on cybersecurity and digital technology

TEHRAN, Iran — TEHRAN — Iranian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Sattar Hashemi met his Iraqi counterpart, Mustafa Jabbar Sind, in Tehran on Monday to discuss cybersecurity cooperation, digital technology transfers and training programs for Iraqi personnel, according to Iran's official IRNA news agency. Hashemi said Iran has faced heavy cyberattacks in recent years and strengthened its defenses during the process, adding that Tehran is ready to share the experience it has gained with Iraq. He said agreements were reached on exporting several Iranian technologies through the Iranian Communication and Infrastructure Company and on training programs for Iraqi specialists through the Iranian Information Technology Research Institute. Sind said Iraq wants to implement memorandums of understanding signed over the years, particularly in postal services, digital security and communications infrastructure. He added that Iraq is working with various international partners to develop its communications sector and that domestically developed Iranian software and hardware technologies have stood out among available options.
