WASHINGTON, United States — WASHINGTON — US officials said President Donald Trump and senior aides are weighing limited military options aimed at preventing Iran from rebuilding radar and anti-ship missile capabilities in the Strait of Hormuz. A plan prepared by US Central Command (CENTCOM) and backed by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was not approved before the latest US-Iran confrontation but could receive approval if tensions escalate further. Over the past two months, US forces have weakened Iran's military capacity through covert mine-clearing operations and by redirecting vessels, effectively controlling most of the strait. CENTCOM officials remain concerned about Iran's efforts to rebuild its radar, air defense and anti-ship missile systems for more precise strikes. UN Secretary-General António Guterres described the US-Iran clash as "regrettable" and called on both sides to exercise restraint. In recent days, the US struck Iran's Lark Island, triggering mutual military responses. Trump said all but one of the Iranian missiles launched were intercepted and that Washington would retaliate.
