A plan prepared by US Central Command (CENTCOM) and backed by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was not approved before the latest US-Iran confrontation but could receive approval if tensions escalate further. Over the past two months, US forces have weakened Iran's military capacity through covert mine-clearing operations and by redirecting vessels, effectively controlling most of the strait. CENTCOM officials remain concerned about Iran's efforts to rebuild its radar, air defense and anti-ship missile systems for more precise strikes. UN Secretary-General António Guterres described the US-Iran clash as "regrettable" and called on both sides to exercise restraint.
