TEHRAN, Iran — TEHRAN — Iran and Azerbaijan held the 55th meeting of their Joint Commission on the Aras River on Tuesday, focusing on monitoring water withdrawals and improving joint management of the border waterway. On the Azerbaijani side, the meeting was co-chaired by Zakir Guliyev, head of the Amelioration and Water Management Open Joint Stock Company, while Iran's delegation was led by Feriba Aurrehde, Director General for Border Rivers at the Ministry of Energy, according to the Azerbaijani news agency AZERTAC. Participants discussed monitoring water drawn from the Aras, assessing water quality, and installing modern water measurement devices. The talks also covered principles for distributing water resources along the river, which were prepared and approved during the session. Representatives from Azerbaijan's Amelioration and Water Management Open Joint Stock Company, State Service for the Use and Protection of Water Resources, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, and the national electric power company also attended. Both sides said they aimed to strengthen technical cooperation on transboundary water management.
