Individual Humanitarian Aid Initiatives Expand Across Iraq

Individual humanitarian aid efforts have expanded across several Iraqi cities, with activists relying on donations to support poor families, orphans, widows and people with disabilities. The initiatives have grown into a visible local safety net at a time of high medical costs and wider social pressure. Activists monitor cases in person and connect them with donors, turning local outreach into direct assistance. In recent years, the campaigns have distributed more than 800 wheelchairs and provided support for hundreds of surgeries. The work also includes food aid, orphan care and home repairs for displaced people. Funding depends largely on individual donations and campaigns run through social media. High treatment costs remain one of the biggest challenges for these efforts. Psychological pressure is also among the main difficulties facing the people who organize and carry out the aid.
