Hashd al-Shaabi tightens security along Iraq-Syria border

BAGHDAD, Iraq — The Popular Mobilization Forces (Hashd al-Shaabi) said a unit within the 19th Division's headquarters carried out a security deployment along the Iraq-Syria border as part of its area of responsibility. The group said the deployment is part of ongoing operations aimed at securing the border strip and reinforcing stability in the region. According to the statement, the measures are designed to tighten control of the terrain, raise the level of field readiness and surveillance, and prevent infiltration attempts and security violations along the border. The unit is operating around the clock to protect settlements within its area of responsibility, the statement added. Separately, the Syrian Ministry of Defense described the military movement on Syrian territory as routine, saying it was not linked to any extraordinary security situation. No further details on either side of the border were immediately available.
