Iraq Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbusi has called on the government to urgently send the draft salary law for state and public employees to Parliament, as lawmakers step up efforts to restructure the pay scale. He said the current salary scale has not been updated for years to reflect economic changes, inflation and rising living costs.
Halbusi said amending the law would strengthen job stability and social peace. He also pressed for reducing the gap between salaries in the public and private sectors.
The push comes as momentum continues to build in Parliament for a review of the salary scale, an issue with broad economic and social significance for state employees across Iraq.
