BAGHDAD, Iraq โ A girl born in 2006 was found hanged at her home in the Ghazaliya neighborhood in western Baghdad, security sources said. She had tied a shawl to a ceiling-mounted fan to take her own life.
Crime scene investigators transferred her body to the forensic medicine authority, and security forces opened an investigation into the circumstances of the death. The case was reported as the third suicide recorded in the city within 24 hours.
Earlier the same day, a 15-year-old girl died by hanging at home in the Fifth Police District of the Biya area in southern Baghdad. Separately, the body of a female dentist was recovered from the water beneath the 14 Ramadan Bridge by river police after her vehicle was found abandoned nearby.
The series of deaths has drawn the attention of Baghdad's security and health institutions to suicide cases among young people in the capital.
